I purchased this two years ago from a nursery selling it as "Giant Golden Bamboo".
It consisted of one culm with bad chlorosis and almost no leaves.
It was repotted, fed and watered well; it put on new leaves and got some green back but still no culms until this year.
The one in the photos is growing 1.5" per day. Another culm is just starting to break ground.

The shoots have the appearance of Phyllostachys vivax (http://www.bamboocraft.net/bamboo/showgallery.php?cat=538) (pics at Bamboo Flora)

... which in an ideal situation can grow culms to 5" (12.7cm) in diameter
This could classify it as a Giant in the making.
It may require a giant pot one day ... or a field to romp and play ;)

Look forward to seeing progressive pics.

I think it will take the place of one of my nigra in the back acre(once it starts bulging the pot).

Thank you for the ID Mark!
I'll get some more photos next week.
