Here is the 'arrow-like' variegated leaf type of bamboo that I am trying to ID.

I thought it was a variegated arrow (when I thought that there was such a thing), as it has the same leaf and growth habit. Except it has a slightly groved stem and varigated leaves. Looks like Pleioblatus chino photos. Also has hairs at the base of the leaves.
Leaf color fades some in sunlight.

Hi ShmuBamboo,
My first guess is ... Hibanobambusa tranquillans 'Shiroshima' (http://www.bamboocraft.net/bamboo/showgallery.php?cat=600) - (gallery at Bamboo Flora)

I recently took more pics of this plant on my travels, but am still sorting out the pics before uploading to the gallery.
... Here's one pic of a branch leaf sheath (new growth) and the oral setae (frilly things) attached to the sheath auricles.
Also note the fine hairs on the surface of new sheath.

Do they look like this on your plant?

Yes, there are little purple 'auricles' (hair-like structures at the base of the leaves and on the culm sheath) as described/defined in The Book of Bamboo on my plants as in your photo.
Auricles are also on the base of the leaves of the two timber types I am trying to ID as well, but not on the mini purple stem type. I had to get out the magnifying glass to see them... over 45 and the eyes cannot see up close too well.

Yep, this, and most variegated boos look best in some shade, though I did recently get pics of this plant in full sun along a highway, only lightly frazzled.
Yah, I'm amazed at the details my camera picks up that my failing eyesight doesn't see ... though I have to take gobs of pics with my 'point and clicker' to get good closeups that are in focus. :(
I'll tackle your other ID quests soon as I can.

Here is a photo of a leaf of my Shiroshima boo with purple edges after being in the sun... right out of the description in the book, Bamboo for Gardens.
