I was wondering if any one had plans to make a bamboo saxophone. I would really like to get plans for a baritone but I would like to make any kind.:)

Hi,
Are you familiar with making flutes or other bamboo wind instruments?
There's a straight bore instrument referred to as a sax but it is more like a clarinet.
Here's a thread that discusses some of the differences ... bamboo sax and clarinets (http://www.bamboocraft.net/forums/showthread.php?t=1927)
Here is a link to musical instrument maker Angel Sampedro's site of the nearest rendition of conical bore saxophone models (http://www.unmundodebambu.com.ar/modelosi.htm)
He has kindly provided information on the basic details of their construction here:

Some more pics of Angel's musical instruments (http://www.bamboocraft.net/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=527&ppuser=69) are at the Bamboo Arts and Crafts Gallery

hehe!
bamboo sax creation is difficult work
it needs a lot of experiencing before reaching something good
i'd say it's better to start with clarinets which are not conical
so you can do it in one piece of bamboo which is easier accousticaly than pasting pieces of bamboo of different sizes to have a kind of conical saxophone bore.
the technique is to try to have the right proportion (between lenght&diameter) for the cone to reach one octave and not an octave and half as the clarinets do.
i'm still experiencing on it so i cannot tell u more
but i can give more resources on it:
www.vents-sauvages.levillage.org
the guy is giving plenty of information on accoustical theory but in french only!
www.bamboosaxcreation.com
another french guy i discovered recently; he gives no explanations but just have a look on the marvellous saxophone he makes; he's also growing his own bamboo for it which i think is the best for a flutemaker.
by the way 'saxaphone' what kind of flutes are u making?
ciao bamboo lovers
