While traveling along Rt 65 in Alabama in late winter 2005, we noticed stands of Arundinaria growing in isolated patches along the highway.
Growing at the waters edge the bamboo was smaller, though sometimes in the same stand, on higher ground the bamboo was taller.
Unfortunately my ole camera was failing but here's a couple pics ...

Sometimes the bamboo culms had a bushy bottle-brush characteristic, sometimes branching was more sparse.
What's your opinion ... A gigantea or A. g. ssp. tecta?
Are these two bamboos commonly found growing in the same vicinity?
