Hello,everyone.I'm a junior from China.
Thank your information for giving me a great hand. I also want to know more details in bamboo buildings and structures for preparing 2007 internationa bamboo building design competition. The address is www.bamboocompetition.com But I have difficulties in obtaining the reference books mentioned in it coz they're only published abroad. How can I read those books? Please give me some suggestions. THX very much!
The books are:
1 Grow your own house by Simon Velez and Bamboo Architecture.
2 Bamboo Style by Gale Beth Goldberg
3 New Bamboo, Architecture and Design by Marcelo Villegas
4 Treehouse in Paradise by David Greenberg
5 Home Work, Handbuilt Shelter by Lloyd Kahn
6 How to build with bamboo by Jo Sheer

Hi, can you get these books through your library?
In the US we have a system called the Interlibrary loan. A library card holder can go to their local library and request any book and if it is in another library in the US the librarian will get it for you at no cost.
Info from this site:
http://www.ala.org/ala/rusa/rusaprotools/referenceguide/interlibrary.htm
In the interest of providing quality service, libraries have an obligation to obtain material to meet the informational needs of users when local resources do not meet those needs.

Do you have a service like this in China?

BTW, I'm curious, Do you have many Chinese books about working with bamboo? China has a very long history with bamboo.
In the US our history and knowledge about bamboo is very limited and there are not very many books written about this subject here.

THX for replying.
I don't know whether there is a service like this in china coz I don't log in them at some cost. The librarian told me that the process was so complicated and inconvenient that my university couldn't provide a service like this between countries.
Although China has a very long history with bamboo, the best bamboo buildings belong to Latin American architects. So,I hope I can learn more.
Now I'm browsing many sites and searching some useful information from other universities. If u can suggest more links or something,I will be appreciated.
