I'm always looking for new materials to use for lashing or tying bamboo, which will be used outside. I normally use a waxed nylon, which is good, but I've never been with anything I've made for more than a couple of years, so I don't know what happens to it long term.
I've recently bought some tarred marlin, from a ships's chandlers. Looks like a natural twine material, covered in some kind of tar. They used it on boats, open to the elements and marine conditions, so I guess it's tough. Not very nice to work with, and it has no give, no stretch which makes it difficult to do lashing.
Has anyone used this stuff, or does anyone know of anything simliar?
