A couple of years ago I planted in the same place a plant of moso (seedling 1998) and a plant of Bambusa tuldoides. There was Phyllostachys aurea before that there.
I returned to the place, I found some long, 1-1.5cm diam culms, 2-3meters high of what I think that are moso -and bambusa dissapear.
I have never seen a Moso groove.
Please, someone with experience in Moso, confirm me if it is. I'm surprised about how fast they grow!

Hi Angel,
Good to hear from you again!
Great pics! Please show more as you take them.
I'm inclined to think it is not Moso.
Does it have 2 branches at the node typical of Phyllostachys spp.?
Or does it have one main branch with smaller side branches forming at the node in following years, as is typical of Bambusa spp.?
New shoots of Moso have a distinct furry ring at the internode where the sheath detaches, which gradually wears off.

Also Moso internodes are shorter

Also new Moso shoots have a distinct velvety coating when young

Thanks for your answer, Mark!
I'll see the branches pattern again in a few days.
The thing that make me doubt to be a Bambusa is that the culms -are small, young and thin- are covered by very little white "hairs" that make the culm skin rough, that I never see in any bambusa -which are very soft.
Maybe is clearer in this pic 578
It is definitely not the white waxy substance that covers bambusa young culms
Please tell me if these hairs would be in Bambusa, or maybe in others that arent Moso

This is a real puzzler Angel!
We can be certain that it is not Moso.
But the lower leaves in the background are Phyllostachys ... I can see 2 branches at the node ...
I will give some time to think about it.
I know someone who has a B tuldoides but they are some distance away. ... will visit them sometime.
Bambusa's here will be shooting soon.

Hi Angel, did you visit/take any more pics of this bamboo or have any ideas what species it is?
Phyllostachys rubromarginata has fuzzy hairs on new culms ...

... but the branching habit on the shoots of your first picture look more like a clumping species.
