I have had my lucky bamboo going on 2 years now. I have started noticing that htere are some brown and yellow spots forming at the base of the leaves around the stalk. What could this be? Any help is very much appreciated!! Thanks!!

Hi Phenomsmom, lucky bamboo is not a bamboo, so I'm pretty clueless about this plant.
But others have also posted assuming this is a bamboo.
Type lucky bamboo in the search box and you will find these posts.
I guess we should create a subforum for this plant.
Even though it's not bamboo, maybe others like yourself may have an opportunity to learn more about the real thing. :)
Regarding brown spots on leaves, I will guess on several things
Weakening of the plant caused by
- nutrient deficiency
- chlorine/flouride in tap water
Some cities are changing to chloramine which doesn't dissipate from the water and can be toxic to sensitive plants.

Thanks for the reply Mark. I did know that lucky bamboo isn't actually bamboo but I thought someone he could help! :)
I know it isn't from water because I use bottled water to water it. I will try putting a little fertilizer in the water and see if that help clear the problem up.
Thanks again for the help!!

No probs and glad to help. I bet there's quite a few bamboo freaks who also have a lucky bamboo in their collection. ;) I did a few years ago but I think it was either lack of humidity during Texas' hot dry summers - I didn't spray it often enough - that led to it's demise, or neglection on a cold window sill during the winter months.
I also had another experience using generic bottled water on some other sensitive plants and they croaked. I found that not all bottled water is 'pure' and had better luck using distilled bottled water.
