Hi - i'm a music teacher interested in making bamboo percussion instruments for my students.
Any ideas on books, bamboo sources, etc. would be really appreciated.
Here in hawaii where I live there are different types of bamboo growing, but i'm not sure if they are right for instrument making.
Thanks, Akiko

Hi Akiko,
There's a lot of types of percussion instruments.
Any thing in particular?

The book - Musical Instrument Design by Bart Hopkin, with an introduction by John Scoville, includes many references to bamboo musical instrument design and construction ... (see review (http://www.bamboocraft.net/forums/showthread.php?t=447)),

FYI ... check this out

ola Akiko
you seem to be interseted in percussion especially
i'm centered on flute making and if you are interested in flutes,
I've heard that some bamboo growing in hawai have the characteristic required for Bansuri (indian transverse flute) making : great straightness and long internodes.
you can tell us if this kind of species are growing there and if you like
we can give you some instruction for building them (the basis is quite simple)

I wish you a good bamboo learning.
