A little experiment ...
Bending 3/4 dry P aurea branches by hand - no added heat applied.

Alternating sides of the Phyllostachys aurea branch has a groove.
With the groove side on the outer side of a bend it is easier to make tighter bends without splintering.
The splintered branch in the background is a branch in which the C - part was on the outer side.
