Looking for an all-purpose saw...

I'd like to get a saw that I could do more intricate type cuts with, but also make straight cuts. I don't know if this is possible, but I thought I'd ask.

I know jig-saws are great for small cuts, is there some sort of rack you can put it on, to hold it? I know a circular saw wouldn't work...hehehe.

Any suggestions?

I haven't tried setting my jigsaw on a jig but have thought about it ;)
