I am considering growing bamboo as a gourmet edible.
Can it be done with hydroponics?
Thanks,
Alex

Here's another post on the general topic of ... Hydroponic Bamboo (http://www.bamboocraft.net/forums/showthread.php?t=875)

In a way, if one uses drip irrigation in the field to augument rainfall needs, it's a form of hydroponics ...
If we're discussing a completly enclosed recycling nutrient system, that's another story.

The fact that bamboo has to first spend some years building up a body of energy to produce large size shoots, and that bamboo has different nutritional/water uptake needs at different times of the year, would make for some challenging research to provide the boo what it needs.

Aloha,

During the annual meeting in Pasadena several years back, one of the speaker from sou CA. had 200 acres in B. olhamii. It was used as a food source for his restaurant.

I am sure you can check on this person if you will check with the ABS chapter in SO CA.
