AVERY ISLAND/JEFFERSON ISLAND WEEKEND - MARCH 3-4-5, 2006

Once again, the American Bamboo Society - Louisiana Gulf Coast Chapter (LGCC)'s Avery Island meeting is an expanded, three-day event!

For the first time this year, thanks to the gracious hospitality of the owner, we will be spending all day Sunday at Jefferson Island.

- Our weekend will begin at 6:00 p.m. Friday March 3, at the Holiday Inn/New Iberia.
Registration and refreshments will be followed by a buffet dinner at 7:00 p.m. where we will catch up on a year's worth of happenings, swap hurricane stories, and organize our teams for the work next day.

- Saturday morning, March 4, we will meet at 8:30 a.m at the Jungle Gardens parking lot on Avery Island for the centerpiece of the weekend:
Clearing and cleaning the Island's original 2-acre, 96-year-old moso grove along with, for the second year, a central and highly visible grove in Jungle Gardens.
Each person working will receive a free moso pole to take home as well as the opportunity to buy additional poles at very reasonable prices.
In the afternoon, we'll have a chance to relax and enjoy the groves we've cleaned.

Then, at 6:00 p.m., we will reassemble at Jefferson Island where owner Michael Richard will be our host for another fabulous dinner at Café Jefferson, overlooking Lake Peigneur.

- Sunday morning, March 5 we will return to Jefferson Island for the weekend's finale. There, beginning at 9:00 am, Mike Richard will be available to take us through both Rip Van Winkle Gardens and his extensive and adjacent wholesale nursery, Live Oak Gardens.
Meanwhile, Mark and Carole Meckes of the Bamboo Arts and Crafts Network together with other members of our chapter will be conducting a hands-on workshop on means and methods of working with bamboo.
If you have bamboo artwork or crafts to show off, or skills to share and demonstrate, this is the time and place!
