BAMBOO FESTIVAL at THE MARYLAND ZOO IN BALTIMORE

BALTIMORE, MD -- The Maryland Zoo in Baltimore invites landscapers, nurseries, artisans, crafters, furniture builders, weavers, musicians and anyone working with bamboo to display, sell, and demonstrate their wares at the first Bamboo Festival. The Bamboo Festival will be held on Saturday June 3 and Sunday June 4, 2006 in the Waterfowl Lake Pavilion Area (http://www.marylandzoo.org/visit/facility-rentals.htm) of the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore. This event is being held in conjunction with the Spring Meeting of the Northeastern Chapter of the American Bamboo Society.

CALL FOR VENDORS

Booth Costs:

Established Commercial Vendors: $150 for the weekend – includes 1, 8’ table and 2 chairs

Artisan Crafter Vendors: $ 75 for the weekend – includes 1, 8’ table and 2 chairs

Non-profit Organizations: $ 40 for the weekend – includes 1, 8’ table and 2 chairs

A $15 discount is given to those exhibitors who supply their own table and chairs

2006 Northeast Chapter of the American Bamboo Society SPRING MEETING

A Bamboo Festival in conjunction with the Maryland Zoo
and the Howard Peters Rawlings Conservatory and Botanic Gardens of Baltimore

Saturday and Sunday, June 3 and 4, 2006
The NEC Spring Meeting will be held Saturday, June 3, during the Bamboo Festival at the Maryland Zoo, located in Druid Hill Park, Baltimore. In addition to the Zoo's facilities and gardens, there are 2 wonderful gardens near the Zoo: a newly renovated Baltimore Conservatory and Cylburn Gardens.

Location : Mansion House (see directions below)

Tentative program / Confirmed Speakers :

8 – 9 am Registration and Coffee

9 – 10 am Bamboo Fencing in the US – an Update
David Flanagan, Engineer, designer, and owner, BambooFencer

10 – 11 am Bamboo in Landscapes designed by Oehme van Sweden Architects Wolfgang Oehme, Landscape Architect and bamboo lover, OvSA

11 - 1 pm Tour of Maryland Zoo, Steve Linda, Zoo Horticulturist
Steve will lead a tour of the native bamboo growing in the Maryland habitat area of the Zoo, growing along a stream bank, as well as guide us around the many other bamboo plantings around the Zoo.

Lunch provided - box lunch (for all who Pre-Register!)

1 - 2 pm A bamboo tour in Japan – a visual delight

2 – 4 pm Not-to-be Missed Rare Plant and Artifact Auction / and sales

4 – 5 pm Tour the Howard Peters Rawlings Conservatory and Botanic Gardens of Baltimore [The Conservatory is the Zoo's neighbor; while they don't have bamboo in their collection, the facility and plant collections are breathtaking.]

5:30 pm - Reception and refreshments at the Conservatory
