Bamboo Germplasm Repository - Byron Georgia, USA
Many of the species at the Bamboo Germplasm Repository at Byron were planted around the late 70's(?) and onwards. Many (though not all) were originally introduced into the US through the Savannah Georgia USDA Introduction Station, which is now the Bamboo Farms and Coastal Gardens

The photos are just a beginning, to reference a group of historical bamboo plants, many which were first introduced up to a century ago, and to this day represent many of the most valuable woody temperate species of bamboo in the USA.
Further comparative evaluation of the raw materials, their properties, applications and uses is still needed and will be pursued.

The Bamboo Germplasm Repository at the USDA Southeastern Fruit and Tree Nut Research Station, Byron, Georgia USA ...

Comprises 64+ bamboo species from 14 Genera planted in 104 plots.
(Stats will be adjusted - Several species ID's need to be verified).
16 species contain multiple plots of the specie, (each with different PI#'s). With the exception of 2 plots of P. bissetii PI#143540, all other species have different PI#'s.
A Plant Introduction number, (PI#) was designated to the original plant propagule, when it was introduced into the USA.
Grif# were numbers designated through the Griffin USDA ARS Station.
In time, each species below will be linked to their Gallery location and to threads discussing greater details of each plant.

Hi Mark-- Was wondering about the nuda ID mistake. Do you know when the correction was made that the plant in Plot H2 at Bryon was really propinqua?
