Advanced Workshop on Bamboo Structural Design
7th and 8th of OCTOBER 2005 - FLORENCE - Faculty of Engineering - Via Santa Marta 3
Towards a friendly techno-scientific design of bamboo structures:
static performance forecasting calculation models and laboratory tests of bamboo connections appropriate to different structural types.
The research programme has begun a few weeks ago and we have collected the first data on the static performances of the first joints in bamboo.

But the journey has just started!
And EMISSIONIZERO dedicates this concrete, techno-scientific contribution, to all victims of the seismic disasters and the Tsunamis of the remote and recent past believing that only knowledge and respect for Nature can guarantee to the Inhabitants of the Earth a future in which natural phenomena will not become calamities.

The design of a bamboo building system implies since the initial steps the forecasting of its static behaviour according to the required performances.
While the mechanical features and/or the static performances of culms of some bamboo species, still rather unknown is the static behaviour of bamboo connections.
We need calculation models giving evidence of both the overall response to the various forces and the role played by its components
This second meeting will take place on the 7th and the 8th of OCTOBER 2005 - at the Department of Civil Engineering Faculty of Engineering - University of Florence - ITALY
(logistics and organizational details will be provided shorty)
During the workshop, load testings of MORE typical bamboo connections will be carried out in order to determine the load limit, the allowable load and the related deformations. Data will be then used to validate simplified calculation models.
