I transplanted a Himalayacalamus Hookeranius from the yard to a pot and took it inside since it was having serious problems with the heat. Although the original culms are not in good shape the new ones seem to doing substantially better. The foliage is gone however new branches are forming which may be able to restore the photosynthesis abilities of the Hookeranius. The original spot that it was located in the yard was fairly shaded however this seems not to have been enough.

What type of lighting is needed if this bamboo (which usually likes shade) is going to be inside for a while? Also I have a book which states that the Himalayacalamus genus needs a period of dormancy to be effective. How long would it need to enter this state to satifisfy the need? Would putting it outside during one warmer winter month be sufficient to achieve this while avoiding the deleterious effects of cold temperatures on the leaves?

Does Fargesia Nitidia have the same problems with the heat?
