Dripper Deer Scare-- Primitive

Do any of you know how the Japanese did the continous dripper thing without recirculating water pumps?

Just Curious, I'd happily try any ideas, and report back.

Not certain, but my guess is a mountan spring or stream. Another possibility that I think is less so would be an artesian well. These are all guesses, so I can stand correcting if I'm wrong.
