I have found a good patch of henon in northeastern Louisiana. I have harvested some and dug up roots. Are they easy to grow? Will they grow like sugar cane if I plant green stalks? Just wondering because I love the stuff. I have already made a nice waterwheel system, a chair, a lamp, and a tiki shack out bak. Thanks for any comments. Wayne in LA

Hi Wayne, you will need some rhizomes and roots attached to the base, preferably with some soil intact to get it to grow.
It is possible in to grow from just lengths of rhizomes.
A number of sub/tropical bamboos can be easily rooted using sections of the cane, (culm), but not so with temperate species.
That's not possible with your Henon (Phyllostachys nigra`Henon').

Good to hear that you're putting the bamboo to some uses!

You can post about it (and upload pics) in the Things Bamboo (http://www.bamboocraft.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=97) Forum

or alternately upload pics in the Bamboo Arts and Craft Gallery (http://www.bamboocraft.net/gallery/index.php)

Thank you Mark. I would love to put some of my pics on here. So, the Henon cant be planted from the stalks? Ok. I have some roots and they are loaded with little shoots off of them. I hope to get some started at home. I cant go back into my patch on the river at least for a week because of chiggers and poision ivy. LOl It isnt going to stop me though. Glad to hear from you. I enjoy forums. They are really cool. I also am a beekeeper and am joined in the beesource .com forums also. I am sure that I will learn a lot from this forum also. Thanks for the reply.
