Hello there,

I had a question,

Does someone know if there is an internet page or a book on the fibre structure and cell structure of the
1. Gigantochloa atroviolacea (black Bamboo)
2. Dendrocalamus Asper (Asper)
3. Phyllostachys heterocycla f. pubescens (Pubescens)

I'm in kind of need of it to work on an report I'm writing here in the netherlands

Hi Rob, I started a google search using variations of the words in your request and came up with a lot of links to this topic. Try it out....
Please be more explicit as to what your interest in this subject is.
Also each species is a subject worthy of it's own merit, as they each have different characteristics... though it is possible to generalize about the fibre structure and cell structure of bamboo.

I'll start off referencing these links below:

(Unfortunately a fee is required to view the 2 articles below. Hopefully you might know someone who has an account/access to the info)

From the Annals of Botany Website:
Ultrastructure of Fibre and Parenchyma Cell Walls (http://aob.oupjournals.org/cgi/content/abstract/95/4/619) ...During Early Stages of Culm Development in Dendrocalamus asper

Lignification and lignin heterogeneity for various age classes of bamboo (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve&db=PubMed&list_uids=11903977&dopt=Abstract) (Phyllostachys pubescens) stems.

Let us know what else you find out. It's quite time consuming doing internet searches and hopefully our efforts to find relevent info will make it easier for the next person to find the information they need.
Cheers,
Mark
