Here's a fun way to practice bending bamboo tops into arches:

This one is made from the top portion of a smaller diameter Phyllostachys aurea pole
If the side branches of tapered culm tops are trimmed leaving a stub, the branch stub acts as a `lock', when pieces are twined or woven together.
These hoops are especially useful when making fences, screens, trellises, or any framework that is made up of vertical uprights and horizontal cross-pieces, because the hoop, or arch, adds structural strength, while adding extra flare to a design.
Often, as part of a garden fence, they can be made by sticking the base end in the ground and twining them right on the spot.

Another way is to pre- make a bunch of 'em, and then put them together into as a design.

There is a limit of how much bamboo can bend, but with practice, skills and various techniques, the bending threshold can be increased.
