A highlight of a recent cross-county bamboo tour/working vacation (Feb `05)was to visit this (privately owned) long established mature grove of Phyllostachys vivax in central Georgia USA.
Due to approaching nightfall, and with onward traveling eminent, we only had a few minutes at the grove... enough to absorb the awe-inspiring feeling of being in a majestic grove with up to 5" diameter culms.
Here's a few pics taken of the grove as as dusk approached, and a closer look at the materials from the two culms that we harvested after returning home.
Enjoy the Slide Show! (http://www.bamboocraft.net/bamboo/showphoto.php?photo=932&sort=1&size=medium&cat=539&page=1) or view the `Ph.vivax at dusk' album thumbnail index (http://www.bamboocraft.net/bamboo/showgallery.php?cat=539) page.
We look forward to exploring the characteristic properties and uses of this material in the near future.
