The Zilker Botanical Garden located in Austin, TX, will be hosting a public workshop “Revitalization of the Taniguchi Oriental Garden” on Friday, January 28, 2005, the workshop will be held in the Assembly Room of the Garden Center beginning at 9:00am and last until 4:30pm that day.
The Taniquchi Garden, completed over 40 years ago is the original cornerstone feature at the Zilker Botanical Garden. The purpose of the workshop is to solicit ideas and options for future improvements in that beloved garden in the areas of plant material, design, hardscape features, and maintenance.
The featured speakers in the morning session will be Mr. Henry Painter, Director of the Fort Worth Botanical Garden and his Senior Gardener for the Japanese Garden, Mr. Scott Books. They will provide information about their Japanese Garden, which was built in Fort Worth about the same time as the Taniquchi Garden in Austin.
In the afternoon, a walking tour of the Taniguchi Garden will be held for the participants. Participants will then return to the Garden Center for informal work sessions where original ideas for future garden improvements will be solicited and discussed. Opportunities for funding of the various work projects in the community will also be discussed.
If you wish to participate in the workshop, please reserve you space by calling Zilker Botanical Garden at 477-8672 ext 11. There is no charge for participation; however, space is limited.
