"Let's Build a Star Cage Workshop" conducted by Akio Hizume
Each participant made a 'tabletop' starcage using 270 bamboo rods. This workshop was limited to 20 participants.

"Bamboo and Straw Bale"
Slide Presentation by Frank Meyer, Thangmaker Construction

Frank has been working with straw bale since 1993 and has built over 25 straw bale structures. He helped build a straw bale school in China after the earthquake and helped build a straw bale ecolodge in the remote bush country of Alaska. "Thangmaker's primary focus and intention is natural building. By choosing building materials that are more sustainable, such as straw, bamboo, earth, and reclaimed and unmilled timbers, we lessen the impact on the environment of building a home as well as create a more human friendly atmosphere." more info here

Bamboo Plant Evaluation Research Project Update, Steve Muzos
Do you a have a few bamboos or looking for your first? Steve is in the process of compiling all the species being grown in the state and expanding his research by trying to introduce different species of bamboo into questionable growing regions to record their reproduction and survival rates. A very important project where TBS can provide documented results of a bamboo you are considering purchasing and if it has a track record here. Get with Steve if you would like to participate.

This event marks our first "decade" of providing educational events to the Austin area, surrounding cities and communities, along with friends and members from many bordering states. We hope you enjoy this year's program and consider joining the Texas Bamboo Society Chapter of the American Bamboo Society. As a member, your knowledge about bamboo will grow as you will have opportunities to be in touch with people who grow and use bamboo worldwide, and you will be able to help us to provide programs for our next ten years of service to the community. The Texas Bamboo Festival is the annual fund-raising event for the Texas Bamboo Society. The Texas Bamboo Society is a non-profit educational organization that depends on your membership and event participation to bring all these services to you. A portion of the proceeds will be used to foster interest in bamboo, provide educational information, support bamboo arts and crafts and to introduce new varieties to the multi-state region represented by the Texas Bamboo Society
